FAMILY WORKSHOP - SPRING 2010

WELCOME TO WORKSHOP - We are offering a range of creative activities for adults and children both individually and together. Everyone is welcome…come and make new friends and try something different, the activities offered are for all abilities, beginners and experienced. You don’t have to have an under five to join in…but if you do there’s lots of creative and learning activities for them too! There is a small charge for materials used by adults.
We do try to provide a safe space for work and play, but ultimately the responsibility for the children is with the parent/carer.


Drop in and no enrolment - we look forward to you having a go from 1.00 – 3.00pm at The Youth Centre, Sanders Lane, Holsworthy.

Suggested voluntary donation of £3.00 per Adult – children FREE- which includes refreshments.

CROCHET
Experiment with looping stitches to create a hat, an afghan blanket, a snail. Have fun with this French founded technique.

Have a go at this ancient Indonesian technique with hot wax and discover the creative use of the tjanting, try script.

MACHINE AND HAND SEWING
From Mexico, create a snuggly poncho, huipil or simple trousers; decorate with ric rac braid or simple embroidery stitches. Learn basic sewing skills on the sewing machines to get you started.

WORKING WITH WOOD
In Scandinavian style, with the use of the vibrasaws create your very own delightful bird box chalet.

WIRE WORK and METAL EMBOSSING
Fun with wire and tin, forming and shaping, create art on a hairslide, recreate the head dresses of the Miao people of China and prepare for the Chinese New Year in the ‘Year of the ‘Metal’ Tiger’.

In ancient Chinese tradition with a combination of recycled used papers and hedgerow finds, create great handmade paper.

A folded technique to create a leather bound book, in an accordion style, discover the ‘healing’ powers of the flicked pages. A simple idea for a personal journal.

Work a wallhanging of felt, be inspired by Kyrgyzstan. Introduce a plastic resist to create a bag and discover the versatility of this medium.

Making use of colourful seed and wooden beads, combining leather and incorporating buttons to create unique jewellery.

Making use of rope and yarn, coil a pot, for a greater challenge a shopping basket. Have fun with the shape and colour.

DOLL MAKING
With recycled materials, reuse and experiment with imagination, on
used clothes, charity shop finds, especially clean socks. Create delightful characters that will have perfect personalities and not suffer fools!!
